Checking the beta hCG level regularly during the initial stages of pregnancy is a common practice, particularly if you had assisted conception, if you suffered previous miscarriages or if you are experiencing unfavorable symptoms.
Falling hCG levels may suggest a pregnancy loss (miscarriage).
Low levels of hCG or levels that are rising more slowly than expected may be symptomatic of a higher risk of miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy.
While hCG levels or trends help identify potential issues that may require further investigations, they do not conclusively diagnose any condition.
Who may benefit from this test
- Mums who would like to assess the progress of the pregnancy in the very early stages
- Mums who may have had an inconclusive early pregnancy scan for further correlation to share with their doctor
