How accurate is gender determination at 16 weeks?
Our experienced sonographers achieve over 99% accuracy from 16 weeks. Baby’s position can occasionally make visualisation difficult—if we can’t see clearly, we’ll let you know rather than guess, and offer a complimentary rescan.
What if baby isn't in a good position?
Sometimes babies are shy! If your baby’s position makes it difficult to determine gender with confidence, we’ll try different techniques to encourage movement or send you for walk. If we still can’t see clearly, we’ll offer a complimentary follow-up scan.
What reveal options do you offer?
We offer several ways to find out:
- Find out together – we tell you during the scan
- Sealed envelope – take it home to open when you’re ready
- Pink/blue room lighting – our room lights up to reveal the answer
- Gender reveal accessories – cannons, baloons and other reveal items available
Can I find out earlier than 16 weeks?
16 weeks is the earliest that ultrasound can reliably determine gender, as the baby’s organs may still be developing before this time. If you want to know sooner, our Early gender DNA test can determine gender from just 6 weeks using a simple blood test with over 99% accuracy, or for a comprehensive health screening in addition to gender determination, choose NIPT from week 9.
Can my partner come with me?
Absolutely! This is a moment to share. Partners, parents, siblings, and children are all welcome. Just let us know how many guests you’re bringing so we can ensure everyone is comfortable: we have room for 2 guests in the room, you may rotate guests during your appointment if you have more!
Will you check if everything else is okay with my baby?
While a gender scan isn’t an anomaly scan, we’ll check your baby’s growth movements, position, and general wellbeing. If we notice anything that warrants further investigation, we’ll discuss this with you and guide you on next steps, referring you to your hospital of choice for clinical diagnosis.
What's the difference between this and the NHS 20-week scan?
The NHS 20-week scan is a detailed anomaly scan checking your baby’s anatomy and organs. Our gender scan focuses on assessing the overall wellbeing and growth of your baby as well as determining sex (which NHS policy may not always reveal) and providing a bonding experience. We recommend attending all your NHS appointments alongside any private scans. Wellbeing scans do not replace NHS scans.
