Common questions about fertility hormone testing

Wondering about hormones, ovarian reserve, or why these tests matter for fertility? Find answers here.

  • When in my cycle should I have this test?

Day 2-5 of your cycle (day 1 = first day of period) for FSH, LH, and estradiol. If your periods are irregular or absent, we can test on any day and your GP will interpret results accordingly.

  • Should I do this before trying to conceive?

If you’re over 35, have irregular periods, have been trying for 6+ months without success, or have PCOS/endometriosis, yes this test gives you useful baseline information. For younger women with regular cycles, it’s optional.

  • What if my results are abnormal?

The report will show your results in the context of normality ranges. Having results available allows you to have prompter and more effective discussions with your GP or fertility care provider and help you identify next steps.
